1. Pet - “Li’l Boots”

    Tori Amos just started a record label, and I wish I was impressed more with the band signed first. By this, I mean her first record label deserved more traction than it got.

    The most interesting thing about hearing Pet now is that I came to them backward; vocalist Lisa Papineau went on to be a vocalist for Air and put out a couple solo albums that sound like the sort of thing a former vocalist for Air would make. Hearing her make a track like this, the sort of thing that’d absolutely make sense on a soundtrack with Hole and Grace Slick and PJ Harvey (which happened), seems so bizarre when it shouldn’t. (She’s got a few other projects; last year’s ME & LP can get compelling.)
